ABOUT Ukyo SAITO 斎藤雨梟
Hello and welcome!
I’m a Tokyo-based painter who creates and exhibits original artworks, and an illustrator for books, textbooks, and web projects. Since discovering bonsai—the living miniatures at the heart of this shop—I’ve been enchanted by the way handling real plants lets me study their biology while my imagination soars. That dual delight is exactly the joy I seek in my paintings, and it’s what I strive to convey in every piece. Bonsai are living fragments of nature in miniature form; painting is an attempt to capture imagination itself. Both can be savored in quiet solitude yet open onto the broader, genuine world beyond. My passion has only deepened since I began studying bonsai under a master, and it grows stronger with each lesson. I hope the bonsai and creature art, books, and products you find here spark moments of wonder in your everyday life and serve as a gateway to unknown worlds.
こんにちは。ようこそおいでくださいました。
私は画家として絵を制作・発表したり、イラストレーターとして書籍・教科書・Webなどのイラストを描いたり、東京を拠点に活動しています。 このお店のテーマでもある「盆栽」に出会ってからは、生きたリアルな植物と触れ合い、生態を学びながらも想像の世界に遊べるところは、求めていた「絵の楽しさ」そのものと感じて、それを作品に表現することに熱中しています。盆栽は、自然の一部を写しとるミニチュアであり、それ自体が自然です。絵は、想像力を切り取る試みであり、それ自体が想像。どちらも、たった一人で楽しめる一方で、閉じたものではなく、広いほんものの世界に開かれています。「盆栽」を先生について習うようになってから、その想いはますます強くなります。ここに並べる盆栽や動物の絵や本、プロダクトが、あなたの日常の中に、未知の世界へ開くワクワクするような扉を見つけるきっかけになれれば、とても嬉しいです。
